Prague’s Municipal Court acquitted and released Guangming Daily journalist Yang Yiming on November 2. According to The Chaser, the court found that prosecutors had not proved the criminal intent required to establish that his activities endangered Czech national security. Prosecutors have appealed.
Yang was arrested in January and accused of conducting unauthorised activities for a foreign power. He denied espionage and said his work constituted normal journalism. No evidence has established his direct involvement in the reported surveillance of Taiwan’s Hsiao Bi-khim during her 2024 visit to Prague.
